Carole King - Tapestry
Title: Carole King - Tapestry
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1971, Singer-Songwriter, Soft Rock, Folk Pop, Los Angeles, California 10/26
Matrix #: ODE SP 77009
Condition: VG (LM) | Members: Carole K (42' - ) | Producer: Lou Adler
Cultural Facts:
- She Had Already Written a Generation of Hits: Long before becoming a solo star, King and then-husband Gerry Goffin wrote songs for other artists from New York's Brill Building scene, including “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “The Loco-Motion” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Tapestry finally put the songwriter herself at center stage.
- James Taylor Helped Pull Her Onto the Stage: King was initially far more comfortable writing than performing. Her close friend James Taylor encouraged her to sing her own material publicly, played guitar on Tapestry, and recorded “You've Got a Friend,” turning their friendship into one of the defining musical connections of the Laurel Canyon era.
- The Famous Cover Was Shot at Home: Photographer Jim McCrary photographed King inside her Laurel Canyon home with her cat Telemachus beside her. The relaxed domestic image perfectly matched an album that sounded less like show business and more like someone singing directly from her living room.
