1. Recording Story: Wire had existed for barely a year when producer Mike Thorne brought them into London’s Advision Studios, where the band turned 21 short, sharply arranged songs into one of punk’s most distinctive debut albums.
2. Band Philosophy: The group rehearsed for extremely long stretches and deliberately stripped away solos, ornamentation, and conventional rock showmanship, creating the abrupt stops, tiny songs, and minimalist arrangements that became their trademark.
3. Unexpected Legacy: Elastica’s 1990s hit “Connection” borrowed so heavily from Pink Flag track “Three Girl Rhumba” that Wire’s publishers pursued the similarity and the dispute was ultimately settled out of court.
