Their Stage Show Was Total Chaos: The Tubes built their reputation around elaborate costumes, characters, dancers, video screens and outrageous theater. Fee Waybill's most famous alter ego was Quay Lewd, a wasted glam-rock star who performed “White Punks on Dope” in enormous platform shoes and a blonde wig.
-
“White Punks” Was Making Fun of Rich Kids: Rather than celebrating excess, “White Punks on Dope” was a satire of spoiled wealthy teenagers. It became the band's signature song and later inspired cover versions by artists ranging from Nina Hagen to Mötley Crüe.

The Cover Model Joined the Band: Re Styles, whose body and hands appear on the debut album artwork, soon became a performing member of the Tubes. She joined their already theatrical stage production as a vocalist and character performer on the albums and tours that followed.
