1. Teenage Punk: Bassist Danny De Haes was only 12 years old when The Kids formed in 1976, and his drummer brother Eddy was about 16. Danny was so young that he reportedly wasn't even allowed into some venues where his own band was booked to play. Because the brothers were still in school, the early Kids generally played concerts only on weekends.

2. Punk Before Belgium Had Punk: The Kids played their first concert in September 1976, making them pioneers of Belgian punk before there was much of a local scene to join. Within roughly a year they had a record contract and were opening Belgian shows for Iggy Pop and Patti Smith, an astonishing jump for a group containing a middle-school-aged bass player.

3. Working-Class Roots: Singer Ludo Mariman worked on the Antwerp docks while The Kids were beginning, and young Danny was still studying woodworking. Their first records came from people balancing punk with docks, school and ordinary working life, not musicians already connected to an established entertainment industry.
