1. Release History: Issued by Sunset Records in 1969, Do Their Thing collects the Isleys’ earlier rhythm-and-blues material, including versions of “Stagger Lee,” “Please, Please, Please,” and “Long Tall Sally.”
2. Personal Struggle: The brothers originally performed as a gospel quartet with their younger brother Vernon, but after Vernon was killed in a bicycle accident in 1955, the devastated group stopped performing before eventually regrouping as a trio.
3. Career Turning: After reuniting, O’Kelly, Rudolph, and Ronald left Cincinnati for New York with very little money, eventually breaking through with the gospel-charged “Shout” and beginning one of the longest careers in American soul music.
