Description:
Released in 1968 on Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom label, This Is My Country marked a bold step into politically conscious soul for The Impressions. Hailing from Chicago, the group infused smooth harmonies with socially charged lyrics that addressed Black pride and civil rights. The title track stands as one of Mayfield’s most poignant statements, while “They Don’t Know” and “Stay Close to Me” balance optimism with awareness. This album helped shape the trajectory of message-driven soul music in a turbulent era and remains a landmark in both sound and spirit.
