Formed once again in Lodi, New Jersey, the Misfits’ second wave emerged in the mid-’90s as Jerry Only and Doyle reassembled the band with new vocalist Michale Graves. Famous Monsters (1999) pushed their sound further into polished, melodic pop-punk, trading Danzig’s brooding menace for a more accessible, comic book–inspired horror aesthetic. Though old-school fans were divided, this version of the band brought horror punk into the mainstream for a new generation raised on Warped Tour and late-'90s punk revival. This record marks a cultural shift—when the skull became more than a symbol, but a brand.
