Miley had been devastated by the 2014 death of her dog Floyd, an Alaskan Klee Kai she regularly traveled with, and later wrote “Pablow the Blowfish” after another pet died. The album's strange humor sits beside very real grief over animals she treated as family.
2. Unexpected Friendship: A major force behind the record was Miley's unlikely friendship with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, more than 30 years her senior.
