1. Film Lore: When Williams first played the famous two-note shark theme for Steven Spielberg on piano, Spielberg reportedly laughed because he thought it was a joke. Williams convinced him that its primitive repetition was exactly what would make the shark terrifying.
2. Personal Struggle: Williams’ wife, actress and singer Barbara Ruick, died suddenly from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1974, shortly before he composed Jaws, leaving him widowed with three children during one of the most important periods of his career.
