Cultural Facts:

1. The Title Came From a Novel: The album takes its name from Daniel Quinn's 1996 novel The Story of B. The band called the songs "a collection of snapshots" of what modern collapse looks and feels like.
2. Named After a Nirvana Song, Then Respelled: Zachary Cole Smith first called the project Dive after the Nirvana song, then changed the spelling to DIIV in 2012 out of respect for Dirk Ivens' 1990s Belgian industrial band Dive.
3. He Came From Beach Fossils' Drum Stool: Before starting DIIV in 2011, Smith played drums and later guitar in Beach Fossils. He recruited his childhood friend Andrew Bailey from Connecticut, who still plays guitar on this record.
