Eric Clapton – Backless
Title: Eric Clapton - Backless
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1978, Blues Rock, Roots Rock, Country Rock, Ripley, England 9/26
Matrix #: RS-1-3039
Condition: VG+ (LM) | Members: Eric C (45' - ) | Producer: Glyn Johns
Cultural Facts:
- Born Into a Family Secret: Clapton grew up believing his grandparents were his parents and that his mother was his older sister. He learned the truth as a child, a complicated family revelation that stayed with him for years and became part of the emotional history behind his often restless personal life.
- Tulsa Band Connection: By the late 1970s, Clapton had built his backing band around musicians from the Tulsa, Oklahoma scene, including Carl Radle, Dick Sims and Jamie Oldaker. Their loose, understated groove helped pull his solo work away from Cream-style heaviness and toward blues, country and roots music.
- Dylan Gave Him a Song: Backless includes “If I Don't Be There by Morning,” co-written by Bob Dylan and Helena Springs. Clapton was deep in a period of covering and collaborating with American songwriters, and the Dylan connection showed how far his musical world had expanded beyond the British blues scene that made him famous.
