Personal Struggle: Bradley Nowell's heroin addiction became increasingly serious as Sublime's audience grew. He entered rehab more than once but relapsed, and he died from a heroin overdose in 1996 at only 28, just months before the band's self-titled album made them nationally famous.

Studio Lore: Much of Robbin' the Hood was recorded cheaply and experimentally, with home recordings, answering-machine messages, samples, demos, and deliberately rough transitions left intact. The album feels almost like a scrapbook of Sublime's Long Beach world rather than a conventional studio record.

Fun Fact: Bradley's Dalmatian, Lou Dog, became part of Sublime's identity, appearing at shows, in photos, and in lyrics. He was not a mascot invented by a label, but Bradley's actual dog and constant companion, becoming so associated with the band that fans still recognize him instantly.
