Cultural Facts:

  1. Hollywood Goes Disco: McCoy built this album around famous movie themes, transforming music from The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Shaft, Doctor Zhivago and The Magnificent Seven into extended dance-floor medleys. The backing musicians included members of the elite New York session group Stuff.
  2. “The Hustle” Took About an Hour: Two years earlier, McCoy had nearly finished an album when a friend told him about a new partner dance spreading through New York clubs. With only about an hour of studio time remaining, McCoy quickly wrote “The Hustle,” which became a No. 1 hit and won him a Grammy.
  3. The Government Didn't Like His Band Names: McCoy once created groups called the State Department and the Presidents, along with a company named White House Productions. According to people close to him, federal officials asked for changes because overseas listeners might mistakenly think the acts were connected to the U.S. government.
