1. Talking in Your Sleep Was the Breakthrough: In Heat finally gave the Detroit power-pop band a massive US hit with Talking in Your Sleep after years of club buzz and the earlier single What I Like About You.
2. Peter Solley at the Desk: Producer Peter Solley, who had worked with the Cars' orbit and other new-wave acts, tightened the Romantics into MTV-ready punch without sanding off the Detroit beat.
3. Red Leather from the Motor City: The Romantics leaned hard into red leather and matching suits as a brand. It looked like a gimmick until the songs on In Heat proved they could still write hooks under the costume.
