Title: The Lemon Pipers – Green Tambourine
Year/Genre: 1968, Psychedelic Pop
Matrix #: BDS 5009
Condition: Good. Has one small skip but the rest plays great.
Description: Formed in Oxford, Ohio, The Lemon Pipers became one of the first acts signed to Buddah Records, a label central to the “bubblegum” pop sound. Green Tambourine, released in 1968, mixed psychedelic flourishes with commercial pop sensibilities and was part of Buddah’s effort to capitalize on the counterculture while keeping songs radio-friendly. The band’s uneasy relationship with the label—caught between artistic ambitions and commercial demands—has made the album a fascinating artifact of the late ’60s music industry. For collectors, it represents both the era’s psychedelic experimentation and the rise of bubblegum pop.
