Description: Released at the peak of the American folk revival, Standing Room Only! captures The Highwaymen’s crisp harmonies and collegiate charm. Formed at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, the group became known for hits like “Michael (Row the Boat Ashore),” and this 1961 LP continues in that spirit with traditional tunes and maritime ballads. Performed with clean vocal blends and minimal instrumentation, the album reflects a moment when folk music was crossing over to mainstream audiences, just before the more politically charged wave led by Dylan and Baez.
