The Bee Gees – I've Gotta Get A Message To You / To Love Somebody

Year/Genre: 1968 Rock / Pop
Matrix #: OS 13083
Condition: VG

Description: The Bee Gees, originally from the Isle of Man and raised in Manchester before relocating to Australia, scored one of their early international hits with I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You. Written by Barry and Robin Gibb in a single afternoon, the song tells the story of a man on death row sending a final plea to his loved one—an unusually dark theme for 1960s pop that still reached #1 in the U.K. and #8 in the U.S. Its flip side, To Love Somebody, has since become one of the group’s most covered ballads, recorded by artists from Nina Simone to Janis Joplin. This single reflects the Bee Gees’ transition from pop harmonists into songwriters with global impact.
