The Cover Came From an Old Opium Label: Illustrator Dale Sizer was hired to recreate an old Chinese opium label owned by one of the band members, but time ran out, so a retoucher cleaned up the original and Sizer added the clouds and sky. The title appears on the cover only as the Chinese character for purple.

12 Gracious Melodies: The original release had no track listing on the back cover, just a decorated cake reading "12 Gracious Melodies," a clue to the hidden 12th track.

Wiffle Ball in the Parking Lot: Cut with Brendan O'Brien at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, the album was recorded, mixed and mastered in about three and a half weeks, with breaks spent playing basketball and wiffle ball in the parking lot.
