The Voice - Frank Sinatra
- Hoboken Hustler: Before national fame, teenage Sinatra left high school and worked jobs including newspaper delivery while chasing singing work around New Jersey. His mother Dolly, a powerful personality in local Democratic politics, helped him buy his first sound system so he could perform at small clubs and events.
- Escaping Tommy Dorsey: Sinatra's breakthrough came singing with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra, but his contract gave Dorsey a large percentage of his future earnings. Sinatra desperately wanted out when his solo career beckoned, and the bitter split later inspired decades of rumors about mob involvement, although Sinatra and Dorsey gave much less sensational explanations.
- Columbia Years Revisited: The Voice was assembled in 1955 from recordings Sinatra had made during his earlier Columbia period. By then he had already staged one of popular music's great comebacks at Capitol, so Columbia was able to reintroduce performances from his 1940s crooner years to a generation suddenly buying Sinatra albums again.
