1. Journey Splits Off: By Welcome, original Santana keyboardist Gregg Rolie and guitarist Neal Schon had left the group. The two soon became founding members of Journey, meaning one of the biggest arena-rock bands of the next decade grew directly out of Santana's early lineup.

Alice Coltrane Connection: Alice Coltrane played piano and organ and arranged the opening piece, “Going Home.” Carlos Santana had become deeply interested in spirituality and John Coltrane's music, and working with Alice brought him directly into the musical and spiritual world that was reshaping his life.
