Title: The Rolling Stones - 12 X 5
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1964, Blues Rock, British R&B, Rock and Roll, London, England 10/26
Matrix #: LL 3402
Condition: VG+ (LM) | Members: The Rolling Stones (N/A) | Producer: Andrew Loog Oldham
Cultural Facts:

  1. Named After the Math: The title 12 X 5 was a simple joke: twelve songs performed by the Stones' five official members. It also echoed their British Five by Five EP, whose entire contents were folded into this American LP.
  2. Chess Studios Memorialized in a Song: “2120 South Michigan Avenue” was named after the actual Chicago address of Chess Records. The Stones recorded it there while visiting the studio that had produced many of the blues and R&B records they worshipped, with Bill Wyman's bass riff starting the jam.
  3. Bobby Womack Didn't Want the Cover: Bobby Womack initially hated the idea of the Stones recording his song “It's All Over Now” and told Sam Cooke they should write their own material. After the Stones' version became a hit and the royalty checks arrived, Womack joked that they could record as many of his songs as they wanted.
