1. Born at Open Mics: Jeremy Lloyd-Styles and Jocelyn Mackenzie met at a New York open mic in late 2007 and wrote about ten songs together within roughly a week. Soon afterward they spotted cellist Emily Hope Price at another open mic, handed her a homemade four-song EP recorded on a laptop, and asked her to join them. 

2. Punk-Rock Producer: Killing the Darlings was produced by Franz Nicolay, best known from his time with The Hold Steady. Nicolay didn't just sit behind the console - he contributed string arrangements, keyboards, accordion, percussion and additional vocals to the record. 

3. Eight Years Together: Pearl and the Beard eventually became a fixture of the Brooklyn indie circuit, sharing stages with artists ranging from Neko Case and Iron & Wine to Ani DiFranco and Sharon Van Etten. After eight years together, they announced their breakup in 2015 and finished with a sold-out farewell show at New York's Bowery Ballroom.
