Cultural Facts:

1. Made While Still in Film School: Norman recorded Not Of This Earth while he was still attending UCLA Film School. He had already worked as a teenage session guitarist and became the school's resident film scorer, so his debut LP grew directly out of his obsession with movies, sound effects and science-fiction music.
2. Les Baxter Connection: Space-age composer Les Baxter played a major role in the album, contributing arrangements, keyboards and compositions including “Re-Entry” and “Galactic Vortex.” It connected a young sci-fi obsessive with one of the original architects of exotic and futuristic 1950s mood music.
3. Family Record-Label World: Neil is the son of GNP Crescendo founder Gene Norman, the legendary Los Angeles jazz promoter, DJ and nightclub owner. Neil grew up around that world, eventually moving from the label's mailroom into production and later turning GNP into a major home for Star Trek and other science-fiction soundtrack releases.
