1. Studio Hustle: The Misfits' legendary 1978 Static Age sessions happened because Glenn Danzig's tiny label was called Blank Records, a name Mercury Records also wanted to use. The Misfits traded Mercury the Blank Records name for about 30 hours of free professional studio time, rushed through 17 songs largely live, then discovered that no label wanted to release the resulting album. Much of that music sat unreleased in its intended form for nearly 20 years.

2. Horror Hoax: For 1979's “Horror Business,” the band circulated an elaborate story claiming they had taken a mobile recording unit into an abandoned haunted New Jersey house and later discovered unexplained voices and noises on the tapes. It was completely made up. The fake supernatural backstory was basically low-budget B-movie promotion applied to punk records, years before the Misfits' horror branding became iconic.

3. London Disaster: Their first trip to England in late 1979 went spectacularly wrong. The Misfits arrived expecting to tour with The Damned, only to discover the arrangement was barely organized, then walked away after disputes over money and equipment. While stranded in London, Danzig and guitarist Bobby Steele got into a confrontation with skinheads outside a Jam concert and spent two nights in Brixton jail. Danzig turned the experience into “London Dungeon,” drummer Joey Image quit and flew home, and the band returned to New Jersey with their first overseas adventure essentially in ruins.
