Description:
Released in 1981, Dead Ringer followed the massive success of Bat Out of Hell and again paired Meat Loaf with songwriter Jim Steinman. By this point, expectations were high, and the album’s theatrical rock style carried forward Steinman’s over-the-top arrangements and Meat Loaf’s operatic delivery. Recorded partly in New York and London, it drew guest appearances from Cher and other notable collaborators, underscoring Meat Loaf’s status as a crossover figure between rock, pop, and musical theater. The record reflects both the strain of following a phenomenon and the persistence of Steinman and Meat Loaf’s unique rock-opera vision.
