Description: French composer Maurice Jarre, best known for scoring epic films like Lawrence of Arabia, composed A Passage to India during a period of renewed collaboration with director David Lean. Recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, this soundtrack fuses Western symphonic elements with Indian instrumentation, reflecting the film’s themes of colonial tension and cultural misunderstanding in 1920s British-occupied India. The score’s sweeping melodies and ambient textures heighten the psychological drama of the story and earned Jarre an Academy Award nomination. For soundtrack collectors or fans of cross-cultural film music, this LP offers rich historical and cinematic resonance.
