Kiss Was the Opening Act: This recording comes from the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland on April 1, 1974, when the still-rising Kiss opened for Irish guitar hero Rory Gallagher. Their debut album had been out for only about six weeks.
-
Captured for Cleveland Radio: The Agora regularly recorded concerts in connection with Cleveland station WMMS. Kiss tore through “Deuce,” “Strutter,” “Cold Gin,” “She,” “Firehouse,” “Nothin' to Lose,” “100,000 Years” and “Black Diamond,” preserving an unusually clean document of the original lineup before superstardom.
-
Peter Criss Went Down After the Finale: During “Black Diamond,” Criss performed from his elevated drum riser amid the band's already ambitious pyrotechnics. Accounts from the show say the combination of smoke, fumes and lack of air overwhelmed him, and he was taken to the hospital afterward.
