1. Cantaloupe Island, Respelled: "Cantelope Island" here is a funked-up remake of Hancock's 1964 Blue Note tune "Cantaloupe Island," with the title spelled differently on the sleeve. Almost 30 years after the original, the British group Us3 sampled it for "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)," which became a Top 10 hit in the US.
2. A Bass Player Taught Him to Chant: In 1972 Hancock was floored by a performance from his bassist Buster Williams in Seattle and asked what had changed. Williams said he had been chanting "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo," the Nichiren Buddhist mantra, and Hancock started chanting too and has practiced Buddhism ever since.
3. Ray Parker Jr. Before Ghostbusters: A young Ray Parker Jr. plays guitar and sings backup on this album and co-wrote the opener "Doin' It" with Hancock and Wah Wah Watson. Eight years later Parker would top the Billboard Hot 100 with the theme from Ghostbusters.
