1. Built His Own Label: Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss founded A&M Records in Los Angeles in 1962 with a tiny budget and operated it independently while Alpert's own records were becoming hits. The company eventually grew into one of America's most successful independent labels.
2. The Famous Cover Was a Trick: Model Dolores Erickson was three months pregnant during the Whipped Cream & Other Delights photo shoot. She was actually wrapped largely in white fabric and blankets, with shaving cream standing in for much of the whipped cream because real cream would quickly melt under the studio lights.
3. Accidental Thrift-Store Icon: The album sold millions of copies, making its suggestive cover almost unavoidable in American households. Decades later, used copies became so common in thrift stores and record bins that the jacket developed a second life as one of the most instantly recognizable artifacts of 1960s bachelor-pad culture.
