Title: Elvis Presley - A Legendary Performer - Volume 2
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1976, Rock and Roll, Traditional Pop, Gospel, Memphis, Tennessee 10/26
Matrix #: CPL1-1349

Cultural Facts:

1. Built From the Vault: This volume mixed familiar Elvis recordings with rarities, alternate takes and spoken material, helping turn unreleased session fragments into part of the official Presley story while he was still alive.
2. Army Years Changed the Man: Elvis spent 1958 to 1960 in the U.S. Army, including service in Germany. He returned to civilian life with a more polished image and quickly resumed recording, but the years away marked a major break between his explosive 1950s rise and the next phase of his career.
3. A Career Bigger Than One Style: Elvis moved constantly between rock and roll, gospel, country, blues and pop standards. Compilations like A Legendary Performer work because his catalog was never really one genre, but a collision of the Southern music he grew up around.
