Title: Elton John - Blue Moves
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1976, Art Rock, Pop Rock
Matrix #: 2-11004
Condition: EX (LM) | Members: Elton J (47' - ) | Producer: Gus Dudgeon
Cultural Facts:

  1. The End of an Era: Blue Moves arrived after years of nonstop albums, touring and enormous fame, and Elton was physically and emotionally exhausted. The double LP became one of the darker records of his classic 1970s run, just as he was beginning to pull back from the relentless pace that had made him a superstar.
  2. A Song That Arrived Backwards: “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” was unusual in Elton and Bernie Taupin's partnership because Elton already had much of the melody and even the title phrase before Bernie completed the lyric. Their normal method was almost always Bernie writing the words first and Elton setting them to music afterward.
  3. Future Hollywood Composer: Keyboardist James Newton Howard played extensively on Blue Moves while still early in his career. He later became one of Hollywood's major film composers, scoring movies including The Fugitive, The Sixth Sense and The Dark Knight, making this album part of a completely different chapter in his musical life.
