Cultural Facts:

1. Born at an Anti-Nuclear Benefit: Guitarist Andy Moor first met bassist Colin McLean at a benefit for the Scottish Campaign to Remove the Atomic Menace. Their shared obsession with James Brown, free jazz, reggae and African music eventually fed into Dog Faced Hermans, which grew out of the earlier Edinburgh group Volunteer Slavery.
2. Angela Carter Becomes a Punk Lyricist: “Virginia Fur” uses words by acclaimed British writer Angela Carter taken from her essay collection Nothing Sacred. Marion Coutts turned Carter's writing about women, power and growing up in the 1950s into one of the strangest literary crossovers in underground punk.
3. The Last Studio Statement: Those Deep Buds became the band's final studio album before Dog Faced Hermans broke up in 1995. By then they had played roughly 450 gigs over a decade, and guitarist Andy Moor went on to become a permanent member of Dutch anarchist-punk institution The Ex.
