Cultural Facts:

1. Family Ties: Pusha T and No Malice are brothers who spent part of their childhood in the Bronx before their family moved to Virginia Beach. Their writing about the drug trade was not imported New York imagery, but came from the world they saw developing around their own family and neighborhood in Virginia.

2. Almost Over Before It Started: Clipse had already recorded an entire album in the late 1990s, only to watch it get shelved and then be dropped by their label. Pharrell Williams, a childhood friend, refused to let the story end there and eventually brought them into the new Star Trak operation once his own career had enough power to open the door.

3. Life Change: Years later, Malice underwent a major religious transformation, changed his name to No Malice and stepped away from the persona that had made him famous. Few rap duos have a stranger arc than two brothers becoming celebrated for drug narratives and then one brother publicly questioning the entire life those stories represented.
