1. Band Lore: Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert formed Cactus after Vanilla Fudge ended, recruiting guitarist Jim McCarty and former Amboy Dukes singer Rusty Day.
2. Career Turning: Appice and Bogert had planned to form a group with Jeff Beck, but Beck’s serious 1969 car accident delayed that project and helped lead to the creation of Cactus.
