Cultural Facts:

1. Studio Lore: Cars frontman Ric Ocasek was a Bad Brains fan and produced Rock For Light at the Cars’ Syncro Sound studio in Boston, giving the band a much clearer recording without softening its speed or aggression.
2. Personal Struggle: As an all-Black band entering a largely white punk scene, Bad Brains encountered racism and exclusion while building its audience, yet became one of the most influential groups in American hardcore.
3. Scene Ecology: After being blacklisted from numerous Washington, D.C. clubs because of the chaos surrounding their shows, the band relocated to New York and became a major force in the emerging CBGB hardcore scene.
