Yellowman & Fathead – Bad Boy Skanking
Title: Yellowman & Fathead - Bad Boy Skanking
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1982, Dancehall, Reggae, Deejay, Kingston, Jamaica 10/26
Matrix #: GREL 44
Condition: EX (LM) | Members: Yellowman & Fathead (N/A) | Producer: Henry "Junjo" Lawes
Cultural Facts:
- Personal Struggle: Yellowman was abandoned as a child and raised in a series of Jamaican institutions, including Alpha Boys School. Because he has albinism, he faced severe discrimination growing up, then turned the nickname and appearance used against him into the identity of Jamaica's first major dancehall superstar.
- Dancehall Sparring Partners: Yellowman and Vernon "Fathead" Rainford built their chemistry performing together at Aces Disco in St. Thomas. Fathead became famous for punctuating Yellowman's lines with comic sounds like "ribbit" and "oink," giving their rapid back-and-forth routines an instantly recognizable personality.
- A Live Record Led Here: Their chemistry was captured on Live at Aces, widely regarded as the first commercially released live dancehall album. Its success proved audiences would buy the sound-system experience on vinyl and directly led to studio follow-ups including Bad Boy Skanking.
