Cultural Facts:
- Scene Ecology Rubber City Rebels came out of Akron’s weird late-70s punk/new wave world, the same Rust Belt ecosystem that helped produce Devo, The Bizarros, and other nervous Ohio outsiders.
- Studio Lore Their self-titled 1980 album was a major-label shot at turning raw Akron punk into something that could survive the new wave marketplace.
- Collector Lore The record keeps its edge because it still feels more like basement punk and street-level rock & roll than polished radio new wave, making clean copies fun finds for punk collectors.
