Georgia Satellites – Georgia Satellites
Title: The Georgia Satellites - Georgia Satellites
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1986, Southern Rock, Roots Rock, Rock and Roll, Atlanta, Georgia 10/26
Matrix #: 604961
Condition: VG+ (LM) | Cover: VG+ | Members: The Georgia Satellites (N/A) | Producer: Jeff Glixman
Cultural Facts:
- “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” Almost Missed the Album: Dan Baird wrote the song before the band was signed, and its stripped-down bar-band feel was far less polished than much of mid-'80s rock radio. It became their breakout hit anyway, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
- They Broke Through From Atlanta Clubs: The Satellites built their reputation playing sweaty clubs around Atlanta, mixing Chuck Berry-style rock and roll with Southern rock swagger at a time when synthesizers and glam production dominated the charts.
- Jeff Glixman Brought Arena-Rock Experience: Producer Jeff Glixman had already worked with Kansas on albums like Leftoverture and Point of Know Return. For the Satellites, he kept the sound much rawer, preserving the loose, live feel that made the band stand out.
