Cultural Facts:

1. They Said No to Madonna: After Let's Go, major labels including Madonna's Maverick Records chased the band. They stayed on Epitaph with Brett Gurewitz, and the title, taken from a Jim Carroll poem in The Basketball Diaries, nods to that bidding war.
2. The Cover Is a Minor Threat Tribute: Lars Frederiksen sits on a set of steps with his head on his knees, a nod to the photo of Alec MacKaye on the cover of Minor Threat's debut EP.
3. A Love Letter to Operation Ivy: Recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios in New York, it was the first time Rancid split an album across studios. "Journey to the End of the East Bay" looks back on Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman's days in Operation Ivy.
