Cultural Facts:

  1. A Traffic Jam Started Buffalo Springfield: In 1966 Neil drove from Toronto to Los Angeles in his 1953 Pontiac hearse looking for Stephen Stills, but couldn't find him. As he and Bruce Palmer were giving up, Stills and Richie Furay spotted the hearse's Ontario plates stuck in traffic on Sunset Boulevard and pulled up behind it.
  2. He Co-Owned Lionel Trains: Neil's son Ben was born with cerebral palsy and couldn't work standard model train controls, so Neil developed and patented a big-button remote for him. He later became a part owner of Lionel.
  3. Written for a Movie That Never Got Made: Actor Dean Stockwell and Herb Bermann wrote a screenplay called After the Gold Rush, about a tidal wave washing away the Topanga Canyon hippie scene, and asked Neil to score it. The film fell through, but the title song and "Cripple Creek Ferry" were written for it.
