Cultural Facts:

1. Church Fundraiser Turned Cult Record: The Wauhob Family originally made Country Style Revival as a fundraiser for their church in Sioux City, Iowa. What began as an extremely local family gospel project unexpectedly developed a cult following far outside its original congregation.
2. Los Angeles Radio Discovery: In 1984, a DJ at Christian station KBRJ in Los Angeles discovered the privately released album and began playing it on the air. Interest grew enough that additional copies were reportedly pressed and the Wauhobs traveled to California to perform concerts.
3. The Review That Made It Legendary: Christian satire magazine The Wittenburg Door published an elaborate tongue-in-cheek review praising the family's unconventional tempos, harmonies and playing as if they were avant-garde jazz innovators. The joke helped turn this obscure gospel LP into a legendary outsider-music curiosity that collectors were still rediscovering decades later.
