Cultural Facts:

  1. Cuban bandleader René Touzet was a key cha-cha and mambo arranger who later settled in the U.S. after leaving Havana. 

  2. Recorded for Gene Norman’s GNP Crescendo label, it documents Touzet’s dance band working at Norman’s Crescendo club on the Sunset Strip. 

  3. Touzet’s earlier tune “El Loco Cha Cha” supplied the riff that R&B singer Richard Berry reworked into “Louie Louie.” 

  4. Good pickup for fans of Tito Puente, Machito, Pérez Prado, or Xavier Cugat hunting West Coast Latin dance-band LPs.
