Title: Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 2009, Progressive Metal, Sludge Metal Progressive Rock, Atlanta, Georgia 10/26
Condition: New (BC) | Members: Mastodon (N/A) | Producer: Brendan O'Brien
Cultural Facts:

1. Family Tragedy: Drummer Brann Dailor's younger sister Skye died by suicide at age 14. The album title partly honors her, giving Crack the Skye a deeply personal meaning beneath all of its cosmic imagery and fantasy storytelling.
2. Chance Meeting: Mastodon formed after future members crossed paths around a High on Fire show in Atlanta. Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor had recently relocated to the city, met Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds, and an ordinary night at another band's concert helped create Mastodon.
3. Rasputin Rabbit Hole: The record's story eventually involves astral projection, czarist Russia and Grigori Rasputin. Dailor's fascination with Russian history and the supernatural helped turn private grief into one of metal's strangest concept albums.
