3. Family Ties: DeMarco was raised primarily by his mother, Agnes, in Alberta after his parents separated. His father's long absence became part of the emotional background of This Old Dog, turning what sounds like a relaxed, sunny record into one of his most personal examinations of family, aging, and becoming the kind of man you want to be.
