1. Music-School Meeting: Jejune’s original trio met while studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Joe Guevara and Chris Vanacore came from hardcore backgrounds, while bassist and singer Arabella Harrison was studying music and recording, making the band a strange meeting point between formal music school and underground punk.

2. Cross-Country Band: Not long after forming in Boston, the group relocated to San Diego, yet continued recording back on the East Coast. Their identity ended up split between two completely different local scenes, which helped make Jejune difficult to neatly place inside the usual regional emo history.

3. Scene Connection: Jejune shared records and friendships with bands like Jimmy Eat World before either group had anything resembling mainstream success. The late-’90s emo network was small enough that bands could discover one another through homemade shirts, split singles, borrowed floors and tiny shows rather than algorithms or major tours.
