Cultural Facts:

1. Jerry Moss Flew the Plane: The biplane pictured on the Going Places!! cover wasn't just a studio prop. A&M co-founder Jerry Moss, Alpert's business partner, was reportedly the pilot flying it for the photo shoot.
2. The Real Band Finally Entered the Studio: Early Tijuana Brass records were largely created with Los Angeles session musicians. During the Going Places!! sessions, Alpert's newly assembled touring band recorded together for the first time, on “Zorba the Greek.”
3. Two Songs Won an Oscar: Animators John and Faith Hubley used “Spanish Flea” and “Tijuana Taxi” for their six-minute film A Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Double Feature. The film won the 1967 Academy Award for Best Animated Short, giving these goofy instrumental hits an unexpected place in Oscar history.
