Title: Fuse One - Silk
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1981, Jazz Fusion, Jazz Funk, Contemporary Jazz, New York, New York 10/26
Matrix #: CTI 9006
Condition: VG+ (LM) | Members: Fuse One (N/A) | Producer: Creed Taylor
Cultural Facts:
-
A Supergroup With No Fixed Band: Fuse One was essentially Creed Taylor's rotating CTI all-star project rather than a conventional group. Silk brought together players including Stanley Turrentine, Stanley Clarke, George Benson, Eric Gale, Ronnie Foster and Ndugu Leon Chancler depending on the track.
-
Wynton at Nineteen: Wynton Marsalis was only 19 when these sessions were recorded in September 1981. He played trumpet and flugelhorn alongside musicians who were already established jazz stars, just before his own debut album launched one of the most celebrated jazz careers of his generation.
-
Two Generations in One Rhythm Section: Bassist Marcus Miller was only 22 when he appeared on Silk, while Stanley Clarke was already a major fusion star. Putting young players like Miller and Marsalis beside CTI veterans made the record an unusual snapshot of one jazz generation handing the studio over to the next.
