Matrix #: SY 14668

Cultural Facts:

1. Ella Went Country: Misty Blue was an unusual detour for Fitzgerald, built largely from contemporary country songs by writers including Harlan Howard, Hank Cochran, Roger Miller and Ted Daffan rather than the jazz standards most associated with her.
2. Cut in Just Three Days: The album was recorded in Hollywood from December 20-22, 1967, with arranger and conductor Sid Feller helping reshape country material around Fitzgerald's unmistakable phrasing.
3. A Country Song Reached Pop Radio: “I Taught Him Everything He Knows” became the album's charting single, reaching Billboard's Easy Listening chart and showing that Fitzgerald could move comfortably into Nashville-influenced material without losing her identity.
