Title: Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1993, Gothic Metal, Doom Metal Alternative Metal, Brooklyn, New York 10/26
Condition: New (BC) | Members: Type O Negative (N/A) | Producer: Peter Steele, Josh Silver
Cultural Facts:
- Parks Department Metalhead: Before Type O Negative became his full-time life, Peter Steele worked for the New York City Parks Department, doing ordinary municipal work while playing in underground metal bands at night. One of goth metal's most imposing frontmen spent years living a surprisingly blue-collar New York existence.
- Summer Breeze Problem: Type O originally rewrote parts of Seals & Crofts' “Summer Breeze” with much darker lyrics, but the song's owners would not approve the altered version. The band had to return to the original words, leaving the rejected “Summer Girl” version as a fascinating piece of Type O lore.
- Black No. 1 Was a Real Person: Peter Steele wrote “Black No. 1” about a former girlfriend immersed in goth culture, with the title referring to black hair dye. What became the band's signature gothic anthem started as Steele sarcastically documenting a very specific person he had actually dated.
