Title: Various - Fat Music Vol. IV: Life in the Fat Lane
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1999, Punk, Skate Punk Melodic Hardcore, San Francisco, California 10/26
Condition: New (BC) | Members: Various Artists (N/A)
Cultural Facts:
- Cheap on Purpose: Fat Wreck deliberately made these compilations ridiculously inexpensive so kids could discover a whole label's worth of bands without gambling money on 18 separate records. Contemporary coverage listed Life in the Fat Lane at only $3.98, making the sampler itself a recruiting tool for the punk scene. Lollipop Magazine
- Not Just Leftovers: Volume IV included a rare NOFX song plus otherwise unreleased material from Avail and No Use for a Name, so serious fans had a reason to buy it even if they already owned the regular albums. The 18-track lineup also stretched from California bands to Australia's Frenzal Rhomb, England's Snuff and Germany's Wizo. Fat Wreck Chords
- Punk Designed Punk: The graphic design was credited to Sergie Loobkoff, guitarist for influential Bay Area emo/post-hardcore band Samiam. Even the artwork came from someone inside the same underground world rather than an outside advertising firm. musicbrainz.org
